Charleston's Beaches
The coastal location of Charleston and the warm southern climate create the perfect formula for exceptional
beaches. The Charleston area is home to five sections of white-sand beaches: Folly Beach, Sullivan’s Island,
Isle of Palms, Kiawah Island, and Seabrook Island. You can find everything from surfing, kite flying,
beach volleyball, sunbathing, swimming, and picnics for the whole family at these beautiful beaches.
The following is a brief description of each of the fantastic beach destinations:
Folly Beach
The town of Folly Beach, appropriately known as “the Edge of America,” has a character unlike any other
part of Greater Charleston. Folly is known as being a playful, laid back beach, making it the perfect
destination for fun-seeking visitors, but furthermore, Folly is a paradise for those fortunate enough
to call it home. The beach draws an abundance of enthusiastic surfers, as it is one of the South Carolina
coast’s premier spots for catching waves. It’s also dubbed one of the best areas for night life; the bars,
restaurants and even dance clubs manage to feel both friendly and fresh at the same time. Folly Beach
institutions, such as Bert’s Market, are household names to everyone who loves this whimsical sea town.
There are also plenty of events hosted in Folly, such as parades, family friendly festivals, and block
parties. The beach has all of the conveniences that make life easier, yet they all share that distinct
flavor. Folly seamlessly combines relaxation with unforgettable moments, and for those who seek somewhere
special, it truly meets expectations.
Sullivan’s Island
Sullivan’s Island, located right beyond the Ben Sawyer Bridge in Mount Pleasant, is a picturesque beach
with a hometown feeling. Ask anyone who ventures to Sullivan’s about their favorite memory, and they can’t
pick just one—the island is jam packed with the restaurants and watering holes that you’d expect of your
favorite seaside town, and everyone seems to know everyone. The Island is also home to historic landmarks,
such as Fort Moultrie, and the lighthouse. For those who enjoy a peaceful ocean atmosphere, Sullivan’s is
the perfect spot; it is convenient to Mount Pleasant and the neighboring Isle of Palms, yet truly remains
a unique destination. Sullivan’s is known as one of the most beautiful places in the area, and its residents
take nothing for granted.
Isle of Palms
The name says it all; this beachtown is filled with plenty of Seaside charisma and beauty. The island is
a quick commute over the 517-connector from Mount Pleasant, and has plenty to offer its residents and
visitors. Isle of Palms Park is a fun place to take your entire family, and features a playground for
the kids, easy beach access, and other amenities. The Island has plenty of great restaurants, one of
the best beachfront music venues in the area, and the perfect shoreline for everything from chair lounging
to volleyball. The Wild Dunes, a premier resort location, is also part of the Island, and draws some
of Charleston’s most enthusiastic golfers. The Isle of Palms is one of the Charleston area’s most popular
places, and for those who live in this wonderful place, every day is a vacation.
Kiawah Island
Take a journey to one of the most picturesque island paradises in the World, Kiawah Island. Located just
45 minutes from Downtown Charleston and tucked away on the outskirts of John’s Island, Kiawah is a luxury
vacation get-away and residential paradise. Enjoy the beauty of over 10 miles of white-sand beaches.
Kayak, Canoe, fish, or bird watch on 123 acres of parks. Take a leisurely stroll or easy bike ride through
the 30 miles of walking and biking trails. For tennis lovers, the Kiawah tennis club provides a great
opportunity to stay on top of your game. For those in touch with nature, enjoy the natural beauty of
the vast marsh-lands, green landscapes, and sunset beaches.
Seabrook Island
The private island of Seabrook is boasts the easy living of the beach lifestyle with luxury and class.
Residents here enjoy beautiful beaches, two championship golf courses, horse back riding, tennis, and
incredible natural beauty. The south side of the Island boasts Pelican Beach where relaxation is certainly
the expectation. The North Beach of Seabrook is one of the widest beaches in the Carolinas and features
rolling dunes and beautiful white sand. For the golfer, enjoy incredible views at either
the Crooked Oaks Course or the Ocean Winds Course. The full service Equestrian center of Seabrook features
